Retirement

This has not turned out as I had wanted. During my working I acquired a lot of nice timber which I hoped to turn into furniture or something. But it was not to be. In early April 1997, I developed a bad cough. I went to our doctor who sent me onto a lung specialist in Whangarei. After some tests and a scan, it was found I have a cancerous growth in my chest, which is compressing my lungs and causing increasing shortness of breath. Also there is nothing they can do to remove it and not a lot to alleviate the breathlessness.

For the first few months I managed to do some woodwork for myself but this has gradually got down to where I do virtually nothing. At this time (Feb 2000) I find even a short walk through our house leaves me breathless. How much longer I can go on, remains to be seen.
